Library Telescope

Early in 2017, the Leominster Public Library received a gift of a new 4.5” Orion Starblast reflecting telescope, courtesy of the Aldrich Astronomical Society.  The gift was made possible thanks to the generosity of Leominster Access Television and the Aldrich Astronomical Society's Adopt-a-Library Telescope program.

This gift allows the Library to loan the telescope to library patrons just as we would a book, DVD, or other item in our collection. The Aldrich Astronomical Society will help the Library maintain the instrument in good working order.

Guidelines for Borrowing the Telescope

  • Patron must be an adult (18 years or older) C/WMARS cardholder and show a valid driver’s license or other government-issued I.D.

  • Patron must have a card in good standing - no lost or billed items or fines in excess of $10 - and must have had a library card for at least 6 months.

  • LOAN PERIOD: 1 Week (7 days) with no renewal. LATE FEES ARE $5.00 PER DAY or full replacement cost of the telescope if it in not returned within two weeks of the due date.

  • LIABILITY: Patron checking out the telescope accepts full responsibility for the telescope (and accessories) while it is checked out to them.

  • Children under 18 must be supervised by an adult while using the telescope.

  • The telescope is available on a first-come first-served basis and may not be reserved for specific dates or times.  To check availability, please call 978-534-7522 ext. 3, or stop by the Library's Information Desk.
